2 weeks old

Cooper is 2 weeks old.  We are surviving and he is thriving!  His 2-week check-up went well today.  He's gaining weight but hasn't gotten back to his birth weight, so we need to work on fattening him up.  Otherwise, he passed with flying colors.  We are amazed at how much he changes every day.

5 days old

Today Cooper is 5 days old!  He is doing so well.  After several days of practice (not without its challenges), he's eating like a champ.  He usually cries when 1 - he's getting his diaper changed, 2 - he's hungry, or 3 - he has gas :)  Other than that, he's quite content.  My mom and mother-in-law have taken turns helping out all week - couldn't have done it without them!  We're very tired but very happy. 

Cooper passed his first doctor's appointment with flying colors.  He needs to gain weight, but I can't imagine that he isn't after the way he's been eating (and pooping).  Last night, he got his first sponge bath.  He fussed a bit but relaxed by the end.  His hair got a little lighter and fluffier after being cleaned.  We're still trying to figure out if it will stay brown because there are definitely some red undertones in there.

Tonight is our first night alone with Cooper.  He'll probably sleep ok, but we won't be able to relax and will have to make sure he's breathing every 30 minutes.  So far, he's a really laid back baby...can't wait to see if that continues.

We are home from the hospital and getting settled.  Cooper is healthy and we're learning the ropes on this parenting thing.  It is challenging and wonderful already.  Stay tuned for more updates and photos!

39 weeks

This baby is coming soon!  I'm now 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced.  More importantly, the baby has dropped even lower.  (Not really surprising to hear since I have had to go to the bathroom about every 30 minutes for the last week!)  My doctor says things are definitely progressing.  We pressed her for a birth date projection.  She thinks he's most likely to come a couple of days before his due date, which is the 12th.  And I'll be induced by the 15th or 16th if he hasn't come before then.  That means we've got 1.5 weeks at the most!!!

Dear Baby...

Dear Baby Huffman,

Thank you for not making your entrance into the world during last week's snow storm.  Mommy and Daddy really appreciate that we didn't have to call the neighbors to extract our vehicle from the driveway or call 911 to get an ambulance ride to the hospital.  Could you please keep this in mind during this weekend's snow, too?  Daddy really doesn't want to deliver you on Powhite Parkway.  We can't wait to meet you.
